Classification of Airsoft Replicas in Belgium
In Belgium, airsoft replicas and airguns are considered “non-firearms” and are freely available for everybody that is 18 and older. However, when their power exceeds 7.5 joules, they require authorization for use, although they remain freely available for purchase.
Airsoft Alliantie België / Airsoft Alliance Belgium (AAB)
All events hosted by participating organizers must always follow the rules of AAB.
The energy on impact is measured in joules (J) and cannot exceed 1.2J, unless your airsoft gun falls under an exempt category.
For every airsoft gun (with exemptions for DMR and Sniper), the maximum energy limit is 1.2J. The Minimum Engagement Distance (MED) for these airsoft guns is 1 meter.
For airsoft guns in the DMR category, the energy limit is 1.7J, with an MED of 20 meters.
To be classified as a DMR, your gun should meet the following criteria:
- Single shot
- Be longer than 80cm
For airsoft guns in the SNIPER category, the energy limit is 2.3J, with an MED of 20 meters.
To be classified as a SNIPER, your gun should meet the following criteria:
- Equipped with a scope with zoom
- Equipped with a bipod
- Only use real, mid, or low-cap magazines
- Manual loading of a BB into the chamber (bolt action)
- Shoot 1 BB per shot
If your airsoft gun does not meet any of the above classifications, the organizer will decide how it will be classified.
Strict environmental laws mandate the exclusive use of bio-degradable BBs.
